Tips for Moms: Five Minute Makeup

A lot of you probably do not know that at one point in time I wanted to be a makeup artist. I spent my hard earned retail money on a workshop led by an LA agent, bought a makeup kit, studied all of Kevyn Aucoin's books (my fave) and practiced on all of my friends (and some family!). While I didn't make a career of it I still love makeup! These days I don't have a ton of time in the morning to get ready, but I do like to wake my face up a little bit. Today I'm teaming up with bareMinerals to share their newest (amazing) foundation, bareSkin, as well as my five minute makeup routine.

The first steps to any skin care regime should be an amazing diet and plenty of hydration from drinking lots of water. I wash my face with 365 Everyday Cleaner and exfoliate once a week with a sugar scrub. For moisturizing I am quite addicted to Origin's Drink Up (thanks Claire!) which I just leave on. It smells incredible!

What I love about the bareSkin foundation is that it doesn't feel like you're wearing any makeup. You simply shake, drop (I chose two for light coverage but you can do four for medium and six for full), and buff. This perfecting face brush makes it super easy to cover your entire face. You can see in the first picture below (top left) that I have some redness in my skin and it's a little uneven. The bareSkin light coverage is enough to smooth everything out. The SPF 20 serum has no chemicals, no oils, no parabens. It has a coconut derived base, lilac plant stem cells to improve your complexion, and vitamin c. It's a good-for-you formula, which I love!

Step one: foundation (I'm using bareSkin Bare Porcelain 01). I applied the foundation using the face perfecting brush in circles all over my face, working from my t-zone out to my hairline.  | Step two: blush applied to cheeks, nose, forehead, and tip of chin (I'm using Mighty Aphrodite from MAC). | Step three: apply mascara to top lashes. I like to use two coats of the classic Maybelline Great Lash and then line the top lashes with intense liquid eyeliner from Almay in black. I go from the outward corners, tapered into the lash line. I keep my hand steady by holding it against my face (see photo below). Step four: I love a good lipstick. I prime my lips with some Burt's Bees chapstick an hour before I get my makeup on and my favorite lip color right now is Rimmel's Lasting Finish in 90.

That's it! Feel free to quiz me on anything. I know lipstick isn't for everyone so you could go with a simple gloss or just a naked lip but this is my tried and true every day look. I wore it today for Mother's Day. Matilda helped me deck out our front porch with some new gorgeous flowers from the Southern Living Plants garden party at my adorable friend Whitney's house. I loved meeting their spokeswoman, Carmen, friday night (and all of the ladies there!). These flowers make me so happy! Speaking of happy, three cheers for shorts weather! I found this pair here. So comfortable paired with a casual striped tee.

This post is graciously sponsored by bareMinerals. Thank you! All opinions are my own.

Hope you all have a happy Mother's Day and that you are loved on! I know Mother's Day can be a hard one for a lot of people so I just want to send any of you struggling with missing a mama or wanting to be a mama or missing a baby the biggest hug I can muster.
