Setting Up Our Airbnb

Setting up our Airbnb has been such a fun (and long) process with Sam spending months on the reno and me swooping in at the end to put it all together. I took poll after poll to see your preferences from pillows to spices. Here’s what we did to create a cozy “home away from home” at the farm!

For the front porch:

One of you recommended having rocking chairs for guests of little ones and I just love that! Also great for anyone to relax and unwind and take in that fresh country air. We chose these red ones that complimented the red front door. We also have four planters on the porch and a small teak breakfast table and two chairs (similar here). I also love having a seasonal wreath for guests like this one.

Front door keypad for easy guest entry.

For the living room:

We used our living room furniture from our previous home because it was the perfect scale.

This art is hanging as well as some thrifted art. We have a smart tv in here as well as this acrylic coffee table and several coffee table books. We have stacks of magazines for reading and a basket of blankets to keep things cozy. We also love diffusing essential oils before guests arrive. I will typically diffuse a citrus or spruce the day before they come. We use nothing toxic to clean and no harmful fragrance (think scented candles or air fresheners or scented laundry detergent) that could cause reactions in guests, only natural products.

This cute and simple coat rack hangs by the door for bags and jackets.

For the dining room:

The table we used was handmade by a friend and we have six of these gorgeous and sturdy dining chairs (more than enough for what the house sleeps which is important!).

Light is from here.

Art is from Elaine Burgess, Lulie Wallace, Target (similar here), Sugar Boo and thrifted.

We leave games on the table, our welcome book with house rules and area guide, as well as conversation cards.

We also added a lock to a small pantry in here to keep backstock of paper products, coffee creamer, sugar packets, zip lock bags, etc.

For the bathroom:

We redid the flooring in here with these cute stick on tiles. We also had the shower kit refinished professionally.

We used this shower curtain.

Eight extra plush towels (two per person). White towels (white = clean). We also added several wash cloths and mini shampoo and conditioner and soap. We keep it stocked with plenty of toilet paper for the visit.

For the kitchen:

This space is probably where we spent the most. We had previously purchased the washer and dryer from when we lived here.

Sam renovated this entire space by replacing the plastic countertops with this butcher block, he also added this nice sink, faucet, and used these floor tiles to cover the linoleum. Eventually we would love to redo all of the floors but these look fantastic for now!

Love this ruggable runner that can be washed.

We have simple white dishes, bowls, etc. We have about 12 of each: dinner, salad, soup.

We purchased a keurig and also have a tea pot and traditional coffee maker. We provide creamer, small amount of kcups, filters, sugar, and stevia.

We bought acrylic wine glasses and have lots of drinking glasses as well as mugs.

We have gotten good feedback on having an air fryer and toaster oven. We also purchased a blender and have plenty of pots and pans and utensils for guests as well as quality knives (this was a repeated complaint that airbnbs do not have good knives). We found ours at Costco.

Stock the kitchen HERE.

We provide fresh eggs and sourdough to all of our guests as well as dog treats if they bring a dog. We also have a dog bed.

For the bedrooms:

We have two bedrooms and sleep four.

In the “kids” room we have two twin beds as well as nightlights and books for reading. We have a toy chest as well!

See it all HERE.

The best tip we have gotten was to have 2-3 sets of sheets per bed that way you can easily make the beds without worrying about laundry. We keep these in a storage bucket.

In the main bedroom we have four pillows (we got feedback that people like having multiple pillows) as well as two euro shams and a throw pillow.

We used my old faithful linen duvet and comforter as well as an extra quilt at the end of the bed. We have gotten many compliments on how comfortable it is and this is the same set up we personally use at home.

Nightstands on both sides as well as a noise machine (which we also have in the other bedroom) which serves as a clock and an alarm as well.

We have additional fans and heaters in the closet here in case they are needed.

All sources can be found here.

For the hall and kitchen we added these nightlights.

For the back porch we have this sectional plus a coffee table and we leave our corn hole boards back there. The lights are on a timer and come on around 6 and automatically turn off around midnight.

We bring the outdoor cushions in after every guest leaves.

We made the fire pit by using weed blocker and leftover rocks and then lining the perimeter with larger stones. We already had the small fire pit and poly wood chairs which we love.

Sam wraps up bundles of fire wood for guests and they can purchase more if desired.
