WHY I BLOG...
The simple answer: because I have a compulsion to share. The longer answer: because I want to be able to document our life in a real and hopefully beautiful way. I've been blogging for a long time, before the word "blog" was even used. You could find me in my early twenties bein' all emo on Livejournal (that's actually where Sam and I met - dorky, we know). In fact I've always been a journaler, I have stacks and stacks of journals. The perfectionist in me gives up on my repetitive innermost grumblings and wants to start fresh with a clean one.
I am always reaching to find my voice and purpose, what do I really want to accomplish from having this space? The main reason I feel drawn to come back again and again is for community. I think it's important for me as a mom especially to have an outlet to express myself in a way that is truly mine and the biggest gift that blogging has given me has been the like-minded friends that I've met along the way that can bond with me over beautiful design as well as temper tantrums. It's amazing, but my prayer now more than ever is to build other women up through encouragement and life-giving words. My strongest prayer is for God to use me to inspire other people through my faith.
I love that blogging allows you to be creative, to share recipes, to be vulnerable, to tell a story, to visually stimulate through photos, to interact with people all over the world... I mean, incredible!
What bums me out sometimes: comparing myself to other bloggers, "stats" and any other conversation about numbers (ick), "followers" and the whole concept (feels like high school), rude people, and formula-driven content with no soul. Give me a bad day post over a "round-up" any day.
Looking so forward to going to Alt Summit this winter with some great friends (Joni, Krista, Kate and Ashley). Cannot wait to learn and connect. So excited. Are you going too?
If you blog, I'd love to know why. What are some goals, what do you struggle with?
