CLASSIC MULLED CIDER

A couple of weeks ago

Meghan

came over and we cooked in the kitchen + took photos. That is one of my very favorite things to do. I love being creative amongst friends. So often I rush around trying to baby wrangle and have "mini photo shoots" and I can't enjoy the process because it's quite frankly a little crazy. Sam and Brian watched the girls so we could have uninterrupted time together and talk about being thankful, that my friends is a true gift of love. At the end of the afternoon we had a slow cup of hot cider (with a little bourbon - it was the weekend!) and it was perfection.

Classic Mulled Cider

Makes 8 servings

Ingredients:

  • 2 quarts apple cider – not juice

  • 1 large orange, thinly sliced

  • 1 (2-inch) piece fresh ginger, thinly sliced

  • 2 cinnamon sticks

  • 6 whole allspice berries

  • 6 whole cloves

  • ½ teaspoons freshly grated nutmeg, plus additional for serving

  • 1 small apple thinly sliced, for serving

Combine the cider, orange slices, ginger, cinnamon, allspice, clove and nutmeg in a slow-cooker and set to high. Heat for at least 30 minutes before serving. Serve with cinnamon sticks and apple slices and a grating of fresh nutmeg.

The nutmeg is just a really lovely finishing touch. The greatest benefit of making cider is that your home smells like heaven. The perfect accompaniment to afternoons by the fire and evenings by the fire pit. I just really love this time of year. See more favorite fall recipes

Cheers to life! As you can see, this cider goes great with the

curried cashews

(my fave!). XO
