Fourth of July: Trout Creek + River Falls RV Parks
We booked a last minute trip for the fourth because I could not stand the thought of spending my favorite holiday at home… We found Trout Creek on Hip Camp which has been a great resource for us. We have always stayed at Stone Mill and loved both.
Let’s chat about Trout Creek - we had trouble getting in touch with them via Hip Camp because they had turned it off due to overbooking so if you don’t hear back, find them online.
Trout Creek is right past Lake Glenville right outside of Cashiers, NC . The temperature dropped ten degrees as we headed into the mountains. You actually drive through Highlands, NC as well to get there. Cashiers and Highlands are the CUTEST mountain towns.
What we loved about:
Once the fourth crowd cleared out I absolutely loved it. As to be expected, it was a full campground for the holiday. Everyone was very nice but I loved how serene it was with less people.
They put on the most unbelievable fireworks show for the fourth in a field about a mile away that we all caravanned to. It was MAGICAL!
There’s a nice bath house, play ground, corn hole, horse shoes, tether ball, basket ball hoop.
Great spot for the kids to bike around and play in the water. We didn’t have a water site but you can still play in the creek.
Amazing access to state parks, the lake, and other gorgeous scenery nearby.
The owners were very kind and helpful.
Nice sites with full hook ups.
Some things to consider:
Very limited to no wifi. This can be a pro and a con haha.
You drive past some run down homes on the road to the camp so it felt a little off before we got there.
Things to do:
We loved Gorges State Park and hiking the gorgeous Rainbow Falls.
Beautiful Panthertown with lovely waterfalls and trails.
Whiteside Brewing Company was kid and dog friendly, super yummy and lots of great outdoor seating and games for the kids to play.
Next up is River Falls Campground at the Gorge. We had already booked this trip about a month out and it was half way home from Cashiers which was PERFECT. We love nearby Clayton as well and it’s in picturesque North Georgia with so many trails and things to do.
What we loved about it:
It’s a resort! There’s a pool, a play ground, bath house, etc.
We were directly on the river! So beautiful.
Lots of flat areas for the kids to ride their bikes. So many families!
Gorgeous areas of large rocks in the river to hang out and walk on (the girls loved this!).
Close to Downtown Clayton, Lake Burton, Tallulah Gorge
Things to consider:
It was very crowded, so if you are concerned about crowds right now, I would look elsewhere.
The RV space was very tight where we were so we looked directly at our neighbor’s pump tank. Make sure to find a wider space.
Things to do:
Go to Downtown Clayton and visit Wander North Ga (our fave!) and eat at the Universal Joint (dog and kid friendly)
Hike the Gorge!
Visit Lake Burton
