Summer Chores

We just started a summer chore system with the girls because school got out early and they love to have spending money!! I’m so excited to teach them money management from an early age so that they are equipped with great money habits when they leave our nest (tear!).

Matilda is 13 and Phoebe is 9 so they get that amount of money a week for doing their base line chores (see below) and then they have percentages deducted: taxes (goes into a holding count and once we reach $100 we will discuss how to use it!), savings, investments, giving, and spending.

We are using this app and their debit cards (this link gets you $30 to start with!) because you can do it all from one place. It’s seriously genius. We had friends recommend it a long time ago and wish we had done it sooner!

On top of these chores they have chores they do and don’t get paid for (make beds, feed and water chief and the kitties, help tidy, etc) and they can get bonus $$$ doing chores like:

  • vacuuming

  • mopping

  • dusting

  • washing the cars

  • washing our can am

  • helping in the garden

  • doing work with Sam

  • cleaning off the porches

  • yard work

  • wash the dog

  • wash the windows

  • deep clean the fridge

We assign a dollar amount we think is appropriate based on the time it takes and then the same percentages are applied as above.
