HOME TOUR: GIRLS' BATHROOM
Over the next couple of weeks (years?) I want to start sharing what we've been working on for the last nine months! Starting things off with the only room in the house that is about 98% done. Here is the girls' bathroom. There is no before of this room because we took the roof off of our house and added the second floor for the girls spaces and for Sam's workshop. I knew I wanted to use subway tile surround and lots of white. I wanted their space to be fresh + bright which was pretty easy to achieve thanks to the dormer window.
We were super tight on our budget once we got to their bathroom. As much as I wanted to do the whole room in white tile, there was NO way. Subway tile is super affordable so we hired someone to tile the surround (it's the labor that really adds up with tile - we weren't brave enough to attempt it on our own!). The tub + plumbing came from a downstairs bathroom that we turned into a laundry room. Really thankful for that! I literally scoured the internet for affordable flooring options and eventually decided to go into a showroom in Atlanta to find this birch tree fiber floor (I'll include links at the end of the post). Fiber floor is fancy for vinyl. I knew if we did vinyl that I didn't want something that was pretending to be wood or stone. I thought I might as well do something fun and crazy but not super kiddish so I went with the birch trees. I really love them. People are always pretty shocked by it (good or bad!), which I love.
The girls' double sink was a project that Sam and I made with the help of my insanely talented Lynndaddy. We spent the weekend at my grandparents building and staining the table. It ended up that we had to re-do the top because the paint wouldn't adhere to the water-resistant material that we originally went with (chalk it up to adventures in renovating!). We ended up doing to the top out of cedar which got several coats on weather-resistant stain. Lynndaddy designed it so that the plumbing was easily accessible with the help of a sliding drawer at the base. We purchased the plumbing materials, sinks, and faucets separately and then the plumbers installed them. My sweet Dad has his company create the wooden bases for the faucets to raise them up a bit. I decided to leave them unstained because I liked the contrast.
You can see some of the pipe above which I'm totally down with. This stool was an Ikea find that I painted the legs with the wall color to make it a little more modern. It has a handle so it's super portable and the perfect way for the girls to get their teeth brushed in the morning. As far as storage goes... we have some extra room in the knee walls which we used to make a small walk in/ open linen closet. Sam installed some wire shelves this weekend for bath supplies, tissues, toys and towels. We also have a place inside there for their laundry basket. Near the tub we have a separate closet that we use to store seasonal decorations. We chose to put them there so we aren't in the attic all the time.
If you have any questions ask away! Happy to help!
