MAKING S'MORES

This weekend we were busy celebrating life and DIYing. It is amazing what all I manage to cram into a weekend. Sam's favorite! We found the reclaimed wood we were looking for to use as our mantle (yay!) and Matilda and I had a Mama/daughter date to a little friend's 7th birthday. My friend Christy went all out on a Super Mario Bros. theme. It was pretty amazing. We also hosted some friends and their babes for a "happy hour" complete with s'mores!! Five kids went and foraged for marshmallow roasting sticks in our back yard. Luckily no one was burned or lost an eye (we had a couple of close calls). We had so much fun that we just had to do it again on Sunday! After all we really did need to use up the rest of the marshmallows, chocolate, and graham crackers, right?!

Sam taught Matilda how to build a fire, which I just love. Sam has this vision of Matilda being a beautiful and gentle woman that knows how to shoot a gun and build a fire. I'm all about it. I want her to have grace and survival skills! I should probably take a few notes myself. I love watching these two. Matilda will cite verbatim everything that Sam tells her. She'll be talking about this fire for weeks.

One time I did a photo shoot with some really beautiful homemade marshmallows. Guess what? They didn't burn. Turns out there must be something that's flammable in the grocery store variety. Ignorance is bliss on this one. I love it when marshmallows catch on fire, so gooey and delicious. I've never understood the people that sit there patiently and let their mallows get perfectly toasted.

Our friends told us recently that if you say something that you don't want your kids to hear to follow it with peanut butter. Well, I am CRACKING UP in this picture because out of nowhere Matilda blurted, "Peanut butter!!" Maybe we should get our acts together and cool it on that one. I don't want my child screaming peanut butter for no reason. Ha! Still laughing about this one.

So thankful for my little family, and my Daddy for helping Sam hang our mantle, and for s'mores. Why are they so dang good? I love being able to pass on this tradition of making food over a fire. One of my very favorite parts of being a parent is being able to relive my childhood with them. It's such an amazing gift. Thanking God like crazy for these tiny humans that make our hearts feel like they're going to explode.
