SUGARBOO DESIGNS
We've been busy decorating our walls (finally). No matter what we do to the house, it just doesn't really feel like home until things are hung on the walls. Am I right? Last weekend Sam and my Dad hung our mantle. Because I've had this whole theme of Modern Farmhouse in my head, it sets the tone for most of my decisions. Our fireplace is really clean and modern (it's also gas which I was really not that into in the beginning but I have to tell you, flipping a switch to turn on the fire is awesome!) so I wanted the mantle to be really simple. I've seen a lot of these reclaimed wood mantles but didn't know how to go about finding one. Luckily I have super friends who share their resources (thanks Joni + Dana!). We found this piece of heart pine at Atlanta Specialty Woods (they were so nice and patient with me as I picked out the perfect piece - bless them).
I kind of want to cry when I look at this Kiss Your Life art print above the mantle. It could not be more perfect for this season in my life (remember when I said I was struggling with living in the moment?!). Let me please introduce you to Sugarboo Designs. Sugarboo Designs is the brainchild of artist (and UGA grad!) Rebecca Puig (she calls her little ones Sugarboo <3). Her line is so folky, tender, and imaginative. I absolutely love that she is local. Rebecca just opened a shop in Brookhaven, Sugarboo and Co. I am dying to get over there!
The reclaimed wood frame on this piece is really spectacular in person. Each piece is made-to-order. The frame is chunky and gorgeous and really fits in so well over here. I really wanted to use the piece over the mantle as a daily reminder but it was just a little small for the space (in general the art should be 2/3 the size of whatever space it will live in) so after brainstorming with my Mama we added this vintage star garland to the mix. I really love the extra whimsy it brings. I think it will be fun to switch the garlands out depending on the season (I think twinkle lights will make their way up there soon!).
I also found this really rad Honey Catches More Flies* antique sign made by Sugarboo. It comes in two pieces and we've been wanting to finish this wall in our dining room, so I thought it would be so cool to break the sign up to make it a little more edgy (the black with gold writing was just the punch the wall needed). What do you think? I love this lesson that surely all of us can take note of on a daily basis. This wall is a collection of mirrors that we've been working on for years as well as some antlers and art handed down from my Great Grandmother's house. I wanted it to feel gentlemanly, with a little romance mixed in.
My Great Grandfather and Lynndaddy made this china cabinet. It's one of my favorite pieces in the house and we get so many compliments on our Bentwood Pendant. It creates these incredible shadow lines on the wall. Definitely a fun conversation piece. Sam bought it for me for my birthday, which is really special. I love getting birthday presents that are used every day. Makes me really happy, one year I asked for a vacuum cleaner and could not have been more excited about it. Sam doesn't understand this.
It was almost in possible to narrow down my picks. I have to share with you some more of my favorite pieces in the line.
